COFFEE & CLAY - HAND BUILDING TECHNIQUE
art Class gatheringObjects such as plates, bowls, cups, and vases should be made to enhance the beauty of what is served inside.

All levels of experience are welcome to explore various methods of working with clay to make utilitarian objects that will adorn the dinner table. Beginners will be introduced to hand building skills and advanced students will be given more complex challenges. We will work with soft and hard slabs to fabricate forms, while adding additional parts with other techniques such as, coils and extrusions. We will learn about making and using templates to develop and duplicate shape design. Techniques for designing and carving our own stamps for surface texture/decoration that can be incorporated with our forms will also be covered. ADVANCED WHEEL
Students throwing at wheels

My traditional German training as a potter strongly characterizes my rigorous approach to ceramic instruction. From clay and glaze preparation, to actually forming and drying ceramics, from kiln work to the most mundane cleaning jobs. In this advanced class I will pass on a bit of this spirit. Our main focus will be about throwing pots on the wheel, with those slightly different techniques and tools that come from my European background and training. Exploring the entire process of pottery making and glazing, from preparing clay to loading the kiln and everything in between will be the goal for this course. http://www.bmlangpottery.com/
